Sunrise From Indigo
Elvis: Lance
By Mariah
I was once a star. I was at the top. You were there beside me. The spotlight and fame is long gone but you're still here.
It's chilly outside but the house is warm. Over the years it's become more than a house. It's our home. I always knew I would have a home one day. I always remember coming home from school when I was younger or even coming home from tour and just feeling safe because I was home. It was something I never wanted to be without.
"Hey, I want to make hot chocolate. Do you want some?" You're already searching through the cabinet for a pot.
"Are you making it with milk?"
"Of course, don't I always?" And you do. I like it that way.
People say that love can't last forever. It's too difficult in this day and age. I think it's a lie. It's just an excuse to avoid commitment. I try to give you all of myself every single day. It isn't always easy but I try because I love you.
"Are you hungry?" You ask, stirring the pot of milk on the stove.
"Are you kidding? I think I ate enough for five people. It's good to know that Brianna got the Fatone cooking gene."
"Like I was going to let her grow up without it!" You laugh and it warms my heart.
As sappy as it sounds, I think I love you more and more each day. I know I love you as much as I did in the beginning and I'm sure it's even more now.
I think that we have perfection. Each day might not be perfect but overall, we have it all. I feel like I know you as well as I know myself and that amazes me.
I worry that it's just a pretty picture on the outside, with troubles hidden behind. But as each day passes, we continue to clear hurdles together.
I realize how happy I am. I'm not looking forward to someday anymore; I'm living now.
