He was pressed against a building on one side; he could feel the uneven press of the air conditioning vent against his arm.
Leave him there…
They sky above him was gray, always gray. The sun… he hadn’t seen the sun in days… weeks… years? Time didn’t matter. Maybe he’d never seen the sun.
He’s an example to the others…
He felt water dripping down his face, warm and wet, like a little fall of rain. Little fall of rain. Eponine’s song. She’d been dying, but he was dying now. It fit.
We’ll move him tomorrow…
Blood still seeped from the hole in his stomach; he could feel it. He didn’t know how much blood one person had… Eight quarts? Pints? Quarts? Was that right? Enough. He was pretty sure he’d lost it all.
What’s left of him anyway…
He tried to picture Lance. He was dying; he wanted Lance’s face to be the last thing he saw. Living for you, Lance, and he could see Lance’s face above him, below him, panting, gasping, eyes open wide and full of love and hope. Living for… dying for…
In the end there wasn’t much difference.

"Little Fall of Rain" is from "Les Miserables." Eponine sings it in Marius's arms as she's dying. Eponine was in love with Marius, but Marius loved Cosette. She was on her way to the barricade, to bring Marius news from Cosette, when she was shot. Very sad.
